The Curse
03:10
|
|||
My mother warned me from the start
“That girl be a wicked lass”
But it's hard to see past your own heart
Once the spell's been cast
So I left on a ferry
Rather than marry
And followed my wits with heart in tow
Made many a mile
But wonder the while
Why, oh why can't I let her go?
She'd told me she had a dream
That I'd give her home and son
Before her web could fasten me
I'd left with the dawn
No empty cask of Holy wine
Nor girl that I've since bed
Has kept her ghost from haunting me
After evening prayers are said

March of the Giants
04:51
|
|||
The giants marched
One long parade
That swept through the town
We with our mouths agape
From the ruin that was left
We were never the same
We stand in their wake
As it starts to rain
The radio plays in the night
While we’re lying in bed
Gives voice to unrest
In our little nest
“Can’t help what I want”
The words that I’d said
The words take flight in the moonlight
Like moths in the moonlight
Because I want to be big
The king of my sandbox
Casting my shadows
Over the castles
I can’t (afford to) ignore the call
When destiny knocks
The words pour out in the moonlight
Daring (those in) the shadows of moonlight
When they came at the break
Of dawn and the lies of the night
Impossibly large, impossibly strong
Droning the song
That spoke of them and their right
To take their place in the daylight
To show us our place in the daylight
The giants marched
One long parade
That swept through the town
We with our mouths agape
From the ruin that was left
We were never the same
We stand in their wake
As it starts to rain
Bridge:
We changed for the better
We changed for the worse
We needed each other to mend
We never saw them again

Oh, Little Bird
04:20
|
|||
Oh come on sing to me, oh little bird
Tomorrow’s song
And we’ll think a bit ahead of us
And love the thought we’re on
While laying in a field
Clouds overhead
We’ll talk about how one
Is taking shape
We’ll rise above the wheat and fray
And float away to
Our cloudy house upon the hill
I could have been a butcher like
My dad before
But then she sang
Her tune for me
And I learned the years held more
Spending days out in the field
Clouds overhead
We let our pockets empty out
But filled our heads
And our wings with gusts of air
And we lived there
Our cloudy house upon the hill
My canary cut her hair
On a whim
She must’ve sighed a thousand times
For her locks to grow back in
So we waited in a field
Clouds overhead
The wind would stir us up
And blow her hair’
She’d talk how she would soon be crowned
With locks unbound on
Our cloudy house upon the hill
We are the words
We are the tune
We speak through every afternoon
And relive it every night
If people never understand
Well then they’ve never held another’s hand
And taken flight
Cause our days fly by so fast now
And dreams can last so long
Just maybe past the day the day that
We’re both gone
Oh come on sing to me, oh little bird,
Another song
The rhythm that we fall into
To move the days along
While laying in a field
clouds overhead
We lived a thousand lives
In our earthen bed
No matter where our bodies lay
We will stay in
Our cloudy house upon the hill.

Heart to Heart
03:36
|
|||
Lilly, how does your garden grow?
Bold and brazen, I’d believe
The way you do things on your own
Pull up a park bench
And we’ll exchange the year
Trading highlights day by day
Until we end up sitting here
A shadow creeps between us
As the talk starts turning small
And the moment slips into eclipse
When I said I’d tried to call
And you start to explain
Come to me, Lilly
Say that hearts aren’t held by fate
Say that love is never late
And you and me have time
I may have crossed a line
But I love you and you love me
And that’s certainly a start
Can’t we sit down and see things
Heart to heart
Lilly, we were never good with words
So in the dying light of day
Will we sit with our remorse?
Its such a shame
That we gave things so much space
As you incorporate your life
And I play from place to place
Bridge:
Our hearts are pounding
Turn your head and meet my eyes
All the rest is lies

City Lights
03:44
|
|||
There are angels up above
Scattered ‘mongst the city lights
If you count them there’d be thousands
Dimming out the stars on a crystal night
Fate will hold its flickering candle
Leave it open to the wind
Gather round and guard its secrets
You other worldly citizens
We all stand on shaky ground
The city walls are coming down
We might forget their watching
With so much going on around
The world just keeps on spinnin’
And the angels keep on blendin’ in
With the city lights
If I could fly, then I’d fly solo
Maybe that’s why I ain’t got wings
Nor have I tried to earn them lately
It’s just one of those things
But here we are now - saints and sinners
We mix and move from place to place
Despite the shadows in every corner
We rarely wonder how we’re still safe
Bridge:
It changes a man to look to the sky
And feel that he owes in countless small ways
A debt on his life
Call out my name
Call out my name
I still pass on by. We won’t even meet eyes
But I’ll drop you a five

Behind My Window
03:36
|
|||
I watched them leave
Framed within my window
Friends of mine
Come to take me out
But out there’s mean
Let me sit behind my door closed
They can take their licks
I’ll gladly do without
‘Cause they say this world turns
At, like, a million miles an hour
So I’d rather play things safe
Sitting above my bed of flower’s
It sounds a tad cliche
Being the boy up in his tower
But cliche doesn’t exist behind my window
My friend’s tell me love’s
A part of life that they hold dearly
That I’m missing out
Love can’t shine behind this glass
But I know they’re wrong
And set them down to show them - “Clearly
If that’s all there is then
No thanks, I’d rather pass.”
‘Cause I can tell from here
That love isn’t just a piece of cake
On any given day, I’ll see a
Thousand hearts that break
I swear I’ll never fall in love
It isn’t something I can take
Then I turned and saw her like a painting in my window
Her hair was golden like the break of day
She had a face to make a lonely heart come out
And play
I’m rising from my chair
And making my way across the floor
For the first time in my life
I find that I am wanting more
But I had a final thought
Can you ever close an open door?
And stepped out into the world beyond my window
To the girl with golden hair
“Hello”

The Willow Tree
02:47
|
|||
She sat with me
Beneath the willow tree
And she wept with the willow
She wept with the willow
She lost her light today
When he walked away
The sun had fallen from the sky
Had fallen from the sky
Folded in the swaying canopy
I let her cry for her
I let her weep for me
Young love had lost
She was lost
Beyond the flowers bloom
The field was making room
For the fullness of the spring
The fullness of the spring
“I don’t belong out there”
She said with true despair
And maybe she was right
For that moment she was right
There’s a wisdom I suppose I should’ve told her
That nothing’s perfect in this world
That this is part of growing older
But I couldn’t feel convinced
All I could do was hold her
Young love was lost
We were lost
She sat with me
Beneath the willow tree
And she wept with the willow
She wept with the willow
